Heritage and Tourism Seminar at Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water, and Marine Sciences

A seminar on "Heritage and Tourism" was recently organized at Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water, and Marine Sciences, under the auspices of the Department of Culture and Tourism, Government of Balochistan, in collaboration with the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC). The seminar brought together experts to highlight the ancient monuments, Indus Valley Civilization, Mehrgarh civilization, and tourism in the region.

The seminar was attended by a distinguished lineup of officials, including:

  • Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Malik Tareen
  • Secretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Sohail-ur-Rehman Baloch
  • Deputy Commissioner District Lasbela, Humaira Baloch
  • Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Illahi Bakhsh Marghzani
  • Director of ORIC, Dr. Javed Meraj
  • Deans, directors, and a large number of students

Professor Dr. Abdul Hameed Baloch, Kaleemullah Lashari, and other experts shared their views on the relevance of tourism in Balochistan, discussing the region's rich cultural heritage. They also highlighted the significance of key tourism destinations, such as Spot, Kund Malir, Ziarat, and the city of Roghan in Bella.

Highlighting Balochistan’s Tourism Potential:

The speakers emphasized that Balochistan offers a unique variety of tourism opportunities, including marine tourism, religious tourism, adventure tourism, and railway tourism. The speakers stressed that the role of stakeholders is crucial in bringing these opportunities into the limelight.

The Rich History of Mehrgarh and Indus Valley Civilizations:

During the seminar, participants were introduced to the Mehrgarh civilization, one of the oldest known sites in South Asia, located in the Kachi Plain of Balochistan. Dating back to around 7000 BC, the Mehrgarh site provides crucial evidence of early agriculture and herding.

The Indus Valley Civilization, another key area of discussion, was recognized for its advanced and sophisticated society, which played a significant role in shaping human history.

Closing Remarks:

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Malik Tareen expressed his appreciation for the seminar, stating that it provided valuable knowledge on ancient civilizations. He thanked the Department of Culture and Tourism for organizing the event. Mr. Sohail-ur-Rehman Baloch, Secretary of the Department, emphasized that the purpose of these seminars and cultural festivals is to promote tourism and raise awareness about the region's heritage.
